There Will Come Soft Rains : Response

So, what do you think?

How does this feel like a "Bradbury" story?

Is it more like Vonnegut or more like Benet or something different?

How does this story connect to any of the other stories we have read?

  1. This feels like a Bradbury story because of the way it's written. Bradbury has a very right to the point style of writing. You can understand exactly what he's trying to say. The way he words things is very different than other writers. I think his writing is more like Vonnegut because they are both very to the point writers. Bradbury explains things more and it's easier to understand what he's saying. This story is like "The Sound Of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury because it is also in the future. But, it does talk about the price of progress just like other other stories we have read.

  2. This feels like a "Bradbury"story because it is right to the point an very, very descriptive. Bradbury is mor like Vonnegut because they are both very descriptive, but they are also very diffrent. Vonnegut wants to say that society is ridculous so he makes up ridculous names and scenarios. While Bradbury took a diffrent aproach by making up a so what realistic story to get a point across. This story connects to HB bcause they both use a lot of technology.

  4. This feels like a Bradbury story beacuse of the way he describes everything in it. His sentences are so easy to understand for me which makes me enjoy reading his short stories even more. This story connects to a movie I watched once called Smart House on Disney Channel. There will COme Soft Rains is my favortie short story we've read so far.

  5. There Will Come Soft Rains feels like a Bradbury story because it is furturistic, but not the future we desire. It shows that life was probably great, then it suddenly ended without them expecting it. Bradbury describes the house so well in such detail I feel like I'm really there. I think this is more like a Vonnegut story, it isn't really mysterious like Benet, it focuses really in one area, but describes it very well, sort of like HB.

  6. This feels more like a Bradbury story because it is dealing with the future, where Bradbury's other story "The Sound of Thunder" was about a trip into the past. This selection was more like Vonnegut's because it was very detailed and easy to understand. It also did not require any prior knowledge like "The Waters of Babylon" made an allusion to the Psalms 137. This connected to Bradbury's other short story "The Sound of Thunder" because they were both dealing with some type of time travel. Even though in "There Will Come Soft Rains" there was no process of time traveling it still dealt with future times while "The Sound of Thunder" dealt with an actual trip into the past.

  7. I didn't like "There Will Come Soft Rains" that much. It definatly was not as good as "The Sound of Thunder." It was descriptive, but it wasn't that interesting. It seemed like a Bradbury story in the way he structured his sentences and described elements of the story. It also talked about the price of progress. In it, it talks about the destruction of technology, similar to Benet's "By the Waters of Babylon."

  8. This feels to me, like a bradbury story because of the way i can identify how he describes things in his story. He does the specific thing where he explains/portrays something in a way we least expect and least wish for. He likes to keep things realistic and futuristic in his thoughts. This story resembles more f a writing style as a Benet piece would have. It continues with the price of progress theme and how progress comes with a specific price.

  9. "There Will Come Soft Rains" felt like a Bradbury story because of the dystopian universe. So far,all of the Bradbury stories we've read have delt with dystopias. It also felt like a Bradbury story because of the very descriptive sentences. Almost every sentence on the first two pages were describing the house. I didn't like this story. I feel this was the worst story we've read so far this year, mostly because it was so descriptive it was boring.

  10. This feels like A Bradbury story because it's extremely descriptive and in the end you know what Bradbury is saying. You can figure out what the point of the short story is. I think that it is more like Vonnegut because the two writers let you picture what is happening and both stories are undesired futures. This connects to The Sound of Thunder and Harrison Bergeron because all three of these short stories are set in the future and make you think about what we are doing now and how it can affect the future.

  11. I definetly liked "The Sound of Thunder" better than "There Will Come Soft Rain." This feels like a Bradbury story because of the sentence structure and becuase of his descriptiveness. This is more of a Vonnegut story in the sense that it isn't at all mysterious like Benet. It is actually really straight forward. This story connects to the rest of the stories we've read because it talks about a world that seems perfect but in reality isn't.

  13. "There Will Come Soft Rain" feels like a Bradbury story because of the style and sentence structure. He is straightforward and frequently uses certain devices, particularly imagery. His writing is more like Vonnegut, and is not at all mysterious like Benet. Like Ryan said, the theme is similar to the other things we have read because it has you thinking all is well and perfect until you take a closer look and it is nowhere near perfect.

  14. I did not like "There Will Come Soft Rains." It was not interesting to me at all, it was about a house that lived by itself until it got destroyed. It is very straightforward which makes it feel like a "Bradbury" story. It really doesnt seem like Vonnegut or Benet because it really was all description of the house and very little plot. It connects to "The Sound Of Thunder" because it is set in the future, also like "By The Waters Of Babylon."

  15. The short story "There Will Come Soft Rains" feels like a Bradybury story because he is very descriptive and lets the reader know what the theme of his story is. His writing compares to Vonnegut more than Benet because there is no mystery in his work. This story connects to the other stories we have read because it talks about the future and how technology and advancement will destroy us.

  16. "There will come soft rains" felt like a Bradbury story because how clear the story was and how I could tell what Bradbury meant when he said things. I liked "The Sound of Thunder" better because it interested me more than a story about a smart house, with no people living in it, that is the only one that survived until it eventually catches on fire. Like some of the pther stories we've read, it took place in the future.

  17. "There Will Come Soft Rains" felt like a Bradbury story because of detailed he was. He described the house incredibly well and he made it so you could visualize yourself there. Also because there story was so straight forward, you could tell it was by Bradbury. It wasn't mysterious like a Benet story. I didn't like "There Will Come Soft Rains" very much because all it did was pretty much describe a house. It didn't have a great plot to it so I was kind of bored reading it.

  18. The story "There Will Come Soft Rain" was a different perspective of dystopian future than the other stories. This is probably what made it interesting to me and why I enjoyed it more than "The Sound of Thunder". I feel like it was a "Bradbury" story because of how descriptive it was and how it gets right to the point, without the sense of mystery that Benet used. So, since he is a more straight forward writer I would compare him more to Vonnegut than anybody else we have read. However, he does connect with the other stories as well because they all are dystopian future stories that have a message about the price of progress.

  19. The story "There Will Come Soft Rain" feels like a bradbury story because the way that he writes it, it is very clear, descriptive, and also down to the point. The way that he describes some of the things puts an imagine in your head right away and it is much easier to understand something when you can mentally see it in your head. He connects this to his other stories with a theme he has had in some of his other works we have read.

  20. something about this story made me feel very lonley. It was sad how the house kept working even though there was no one there and the way he wrote it made the sounds of the tecnologys voices echo in my head. He made it seem like they were a family that couldnt let go of the loss of their son and finaly something brings them back to reality. In this story it was the tree chrashing onto the house and burning down. i liked this story alot but i didnt like the lonley/lost feeling it came with.

  21. I think "There Will Come Soft Rains" was a lonely, silent story. I would say that it is a Bradbury writing because everything is well described and easily pictured. Benet's stories are mysterious and they make you think before you can understand the main idea. I had mutual feelings for this story. I liked how it was entertaining to see the technology that Bradbury thought would emerge in the future. I didn't like how quiet the house was and the lonely feeling I had while reading the story.

  22. This feels like a Bradbury story because of his sentence structure, as Nichole said. I like that Bradbury's style is more straight-forward than Benet because it's easier to understand. Bradbury's imagery is also very strong, painting a picture in your head so it's enjoyable to read.
