- The Sound of Thunder
- There Will Come Soft Rains
How would you describe Bradbury's style?
Concentrate on selecting examples of:
- specific word choices that reveal a pattern
- specific sentence types
- specific images
- specific emotional adjectives that capture Bradbury's attitude toward character, settings or the situation.
At some points, Bradbury's style was kind of confusing to read. Some of his sentences were really long and complicated and I'd get a little lost. On page 72 in column two, the second paragraph was made up of just three sentences because the second sentence was so long. I think he did this so the reader could picture the way the memories were flashing through Ecker's head, though, and I thought that was creative of Bradbury. His writing is also very descriptive, which I liked because it made it more interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteI think Bradbury's style is unique. It's easy to follow, for me. I think he's very to the point about some things but after reading "There Will Come Soft Rains" I can see that he hides some things and makes you really think about what he's trying to say. He does have some long, complicated sentences that make you really think, like Benet. I really like his work. I like the fact that he can be to the point, but I also like thinking about certain things. I could picture exactly what he was writing because he wrote in such detail. I did prefer "The Sound of Thunder" more than "There Will Come Soft Rains".

ReplyDeleteI would describe Bradbury's style easy to understand and to the point. Bradbury's writing is very descriptive and different. He also tends to make his stories have an underlying message. Although his sentences are short and quick to the point, it is almost as if each sentense has another meaning. Like Christine said, it really makes you think. While reading both of Bradbury's selections I always had a vivid image in my head of everything he was describing. I like that Bradbury's works are like that because it makes it so his stories never get boring.
ReplyDeleteBradbury's style is very descriptive and to the point. Like when the house in "There Will Come Soft Rains" burns down I could litterally picture all the rooms slowly dieing. At the end of his stories you always have to reread them I think because Bradbury likes to give a clear theme but when i go back i realized there is hidden themes. So if you read Bradbury you always get something back from it even if you dont get the hidden message. I love reading storys by Bradbury.
ReplyDeleteBradbury's style involves the use of very descriptive details. He uses the idea of stories occurring in the future to point to warning signs, saying what we should look out for as our technology changes. Bradbury, also, does not over-complicate. He presents his ideas so that they are clear to understand, but still, make you think about his message. For example, in "The Sound of Thunder," it is easy to tell that he is pointing at the price of our progress. It makes you think, however, about how something similar could happen to us some time down the road. Bradbury's style is descriptive, understandable, and convincing. The way he writes his stories make it very interesting to his readers.
ReplyDeleteI would describe Bradbury's style as very descriptive. He has very long sentences that take up a whole paragraph just for the purpose of going into great detail of th setting. In "The Sound of Thunder," Travis goes into great monolouges describing how if Eckels touches anything the future will be ruined. It's kind of overkill because he goes into two monolouges that pretty much say the same thing each time. Overall, I would describe Bradbury's style as descriptive.
ReplyDeleteI would describe Bradbury's style as descriptive and that he gets to the point. You can picture what is going on throughout the whole story and you understand what Bradbury is saying. By the end of the short story one should know what the message is. For me there aren't any specific images because every thing that Bradbury describes stands out. His sentences are long, but I liked it. It just added something to the story.
ReplyDeleteI would describe Bradbury's style as different. He uses a lot of long sentences to describe a scene thoroughly. Since the story takes place in 2026 it may hint that Bradbury likes to include his opinions in his stories. The advanced technology in the story refers to how the future may be in years to come. He is very exact and to the point in his writings. The images he created were clear and helped me follow along easily. I enjoy reading Bradbury's stories because he always has a specific message or lesson to be learned at the end.
ReplyDeleteI really like Bradburys style of writing. It is really descriptive and very easy to read. I Can picture everything he is describing in my head. He is a great writer in my opinion and I like all his stories. his sentences/ paragraphs are not too complicated which make the story(s) easier to follow. I enjoy reading stories by Bradbury and I hope we read more in class.
ReplyDeleteAs other's have previously said, Bradbury has a unique style of writing. He writes rather poetically. By that, I mean he uses sound devices such as onomatopoeia, similes and metaphors. He also frequently uses imagery and alliteration. (i.e. "Somewhere, sighing, a pump shrugged to a stop."
ReplyDeleteRay Bradburys style of writing is unique. I agree with all the others who have made the same comment. He uses many poetic elements in his writing. It makes a big difference, but in some cases he uses too much description. Thats just my opinion though, for example "There Will Come Soft Rains" had too much description which made it unentertaining for me.
ReplyDeleteI think that Bradbury's style is, in a way, connected to Vonnegut and Benet's style. Ways that Bradbury writes like Vonnegut is that at times he is blunt and straight to the point. Also, he sometimes does not go into any depth or descriptions like he usually does. On the other hand, he writes like Benet because he describes his subjects in detail and he likes to cover all ground areas. Now Bradbury, like most writers, has his own unique characteristics in his writing. One aspect of his writing is that he keeps things realistic and not far-fetched from what human thoughts are. Another aspect of his writing is that some of his thoughts are sometimes futuristic.
ReplyDeleteLike most writers, Bradbury has his own unique way of writing his stories. His writing is very simple and easily read. I like the way he writes because i want to know what i'm reading without having to think so hard about what he's saying. Bradbury likes using detail so he ends up writing long sentences. Sometimes using long sentences is alright but he sometimes does it too much.
ReplyDeleteBradbury's style is very descriptive and his attention to detail is incredible. Like the way he describes the dinosaur falling and dying in "The Sound of Thunder", he makes you feel like you are personally there. He is also very straight forward and his writing isn't very mysterious, but it doesn't have to be. Even though his stories are easy to follow and understand, they still convey an important message about the price of progress. Bradbury' attention to detail is very impressive.
ReplyDeleteI would describe Bradbury's style as being very descriptive, and to the point. However, he manages to pack so much meaning into small parts of his stories that at first glance don't seem to significant. An example of this is the Teasdale poem that describes how nature would not notice if humans were gone. This part was very important because it basically announced the setting and ideas of the story to the reader. So this shows that small details are very important to Bradbury, which seems appropriate because that is what "The Sound of Thunder" was about. So, I see Bradbury as a writer who is descriptive and hides important images/messages in small details and sections of his stories.
