Bradbury doesn't always write about the future in the same way that Stephen King doesn't always write about horror and the supernatural.
For instance, did you know that Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile are all Stephen King stories?

"Dandelion Wine," was not as interesting as the other stories Bradbury has written. His other stories were moe interesting becasue they added the feeling of mystery, but this story was just boring in my opinion. Bradbury doesn't have many short phrases, combined to make one long sentence like he did in all of the other stories we've read. And he also doesn't use rhythm in the story, mostly because this story is filled with dialogue, unlike his other stories. He does, however, still use very descriptive words when explaining something. And sometimes he uses repetition in the exerpt, but not as much as he did in the other sories we've read by him.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with michael that "Dandelion Wine" was very unlike most of bradbury's writings. This one never really got my attention or drew me into the story at any point espically with the dialogue. In this bradburys sentences were much different too they weren't long and drawn out but short and cut off with all of the dialogue going on. While he might be using descriptive words his sentences are not the same. Overall i didnt like this story very much espically coming it to his other stories.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the two previous posts in that "Dandelion Wine" was unlike the other Ray Bradbury stories. The first few paragraphs describing what it was like to get new shoes and what it feels like hooked me, but after that nothing really kept my focus and it was harder to understand only because I didn't enjoy it as much. In this story the sentences were shorter than the ones in Bradbury's other stories. The sentences were not small portions combined into one large sentence. Also there was a lack of rhythm, but in his other stories you could pick up the rhythm. I feel that if this story was more mysterious or had a more exciting plot I would have enjoyed it more. Also, maybe having someone else read it to me, so they can read how they see it, would help.
ReplyDeleteTo me "Dandelion Wine" was not the best Ray Bradbury story. The story was very boring to me, I think it was so boring though because every other one of Bradbury's stories has has some sort of mystery and this one didn't. Some of the same stylistic features were his use of descriptive words and imagery, in all of his stories so far I have gotten a very good image of what is going on and how everything looks. Something different Bradbury did included was dialogue, most of this story was dialogue unlike the other Bradbury stories. I enjoy reading Bradbury's stories about the future much better!

ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was quite boring compared to the other short stories we read by Bradbury. I don't think it appeals to me because I'm used to reading interesting stories by Bradbury filled with a lot imagery and rhythm. This short story still had some imagery in it but it wasn't as clear.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was different than the other Bradbury stories we have read. I found this piece to be very boring. I couldn't really get into it. I thought his other stories had better imagery. His sentences were short and simple, but it just wasn't interesting enough for me. I liked his futuristic stories much more intriguing, and easier to get into. The dialogue was quite boring. His other stories all had a mysterious aura and you didn't know exactly what to expect. I didn't mind this story, but I didn't like it as much as his other writings.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was much different than he other Bradbury stories we have read. I don't think I necessarily liked it less, because it was something completely different and I like both this and his futuristic stories. While the two were a lot different, I could still see similarities. Right away, I could tell it was written by Ray Bradbury. He writes very poetically by using certain sound devices and techniques. Overall, I enjoyed the story because I thought it was a nice change from the other stories we have read.
ReplyDeleteDandelion Wine seemed sort of bland after reading crazy stories like Harrison Bergeron and There Will Come Soft Rains. The main difference I see in this Bradbury story from the others is that it isn't set in the future. There's no robots or dinosaurs, it's something that could happen now, which is nice, since that means you can connect to it easier. I was a little confused with what was happening in some points, like in the first paragraph, and I had to read it a few times. Like the other Bradbury stories he includes longer, listing sentences, such as, "Well, as anyone knew, the hills around town were wild with friends putting cows to riot, playing barometer to the atmospheric changes, taking sun, peeling like calendars each day to take more sun," along with metaphors.
ReplyDeleteI did not enjoy "Dandelion Wine" as much as Ray Bradbury's other selections that we have read. I think this is because all of the other short stories we have read by Bradbury are more mysterious and have more imagry. This selection had stylistic features that were similar to the other selections that we have read because it still was very detailed, except more through a dialogue. After reading this short story, I have realized that Bradbury has many different styles of writing.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that "Dandelion Wine" was not one of Bradbury's best works. The story was kind of boring and never had me interested. Bradbury usually adds so much description and detail, but this story was different. I liked how he described the way someone feels while running in the summer grass for the first time. There were some parts of the story that sounded like Bradbury's style and other parts that had me bored. Overall it was not my favorite story by Bradbury, but it was a good read.
ReplyDeletePersonally, i liked "Dandeloin Wine" because i can connect to it. That feeling of getting new shoes is exactly how Ray Bradbury describes it. You really feel like you can do extrodinary things with new shoes or cleats. This story is not like other Bradbury stories, but it does include the same long extended sentances that Bradbury uses. It differs from his work because he is not talking about some wild future that is unpredictable.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was not one of the more upbeat stories that Bradbury has written. It wasn't exactly boring it just didn't really intrest me. Overall it didn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the stories we have read. This is probably because it didn't have anything to d with the future or a post apocoliptic world.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" wasn't the most interesting story I have ever read. It was kind of boring to me but it was very different from the other stories by Ray Bradbury that we have read already. It is similar to his other work in the amount of detail he puts into it, he describes the feeling of new shoes so well that you can feel it yourself. It is different in the way that it isn't about the future or some crazy idea of how the world could be.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was a major change of pace, compared to the other Bradbury stories we have written. Even though it may have not been the most interesting story we read by Ray Bradbury, you can still tell it was written by him. This is because like all of his other stories it was highly descriptive, and he still uses elements such as similes in the story as well. An example of this is when he describes the shoes as being "Cream-Sponge Para Litefoot Shoes". However there are differences in style between this story and the others. For example Bradbury doesn't create a "doom and gloom" mood in this story, but instead makes it lighthearted. So overall even though it wasn't that interesting to me, I can still see how it contained some stylistic elements of Bradbury and what changed.
ReplyDeleteI think that "Dandelion Wine" was also very boring. It didn't compare to anyother Bradbury stories. I personally did not enjoy reading this short story. It did use some imagery but not as much as his other stories. It didn't interest me as a reader and I did not find this story enjoyable
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was a change from Bradburys usual style of writing. I didn't like it very much because I couldn't relate to it. Although Bradbury was still very descriptive, he seemed to use dialogue a lot more. Most of the Bradbury stories we've read are about the future and how things change over time but this was about new shoes and getting what you want most even if you have to do it yourself.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wine" was clearly not one of Bradbury's strongest short stories but I still found interest in reading it. I liked how Bradbury formed his writing by adding dialogue then a thrd person point of view. I can connect to Douglas because getting a new pairs of shoes brings that rush of excitement. Ray Bradbury's style never changes but the topics of his style do.
ReplyDeleteDandelion Wire is not a typical Ray Bradbury reading, it is a more original piece. It is a story about an average kid who wants a new pair of sneakers and has a dilemma because he cannot get them easily. It is not a typical Ray Bradbury story because he is not writing about the future or in a futuristic way. I like this story because i can relate and because i like the main character Douglas. I also like the plot and resolution of the story. Dandelion Wire is somewhat the same as a regular Bradbury story because of the devices such as imagery, for example when Douglas describes the old sneakers and what they are like. Ray uses imagery alot still and ryhthm to his sentences. It differs because of the fact its not a futuristic setting and does not portray things we look forward to in a bad way.
ReplyDeleteThe story "Dandelion Wine" seemed very pointless and boring to me. The plot was so dry but i feel like every kid can connect to the boy in the story. Its like how going back to school just dosnt feel the same without a new pair of shoes and we cant really exsplain it either. But i noticed Bradbery's style of writing long, run-on, but yet descriptive sentences. I think his stories of future worlds are more exciting and better suite his style.
ReplyDeleteThe story "Dandelion Wine" was different in a lot of ways than a normal Bradbury story. The setting was not described as much as characters and objects, and there was more frequent use of dialogue. Still, nonetheless, he was precise in creating strong metaphors and imagery. The sentences were structured similarly, using a lot of normal Bradbury effects. This story was not as interesting as the others that we have read. This selection was less enjoyable. However, I still liked the story that Bradbury told. It wasn't that interesting, but there were some things to like about it. Even though this story strayed a little from Bradbury's normal lane of style, it was still an enjoyable piece.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think "Dandelion Wine" was all that interesting, but it did feel more real than Bradbury's other stories. It was a lot different than what he normally writes. He was really descriptive, still, and I agree with Lindsay that a lot of kids can probably connect with this story. It didn't really catch my attention at any point though, but I did like his use of a lot of dialogue.
