We will have a test on Tuesday, Open Response style.
You will be able to use your books and notebooks, just as on MCAS you always have a test to refer to.
Needless to say, you will be expected to quote from the story to support your answer.
So, what does that mean to you?
Do you have a strategy to share for successful writing?
What about writing open response items is stressful for you?
Do you have a question about writing for that type of item?

"FRED" will help you get a perfect score when writing. Last year this is what Ms. Pflaumer told us to do when ever we write. I'm not really sure if that is what the "R" stands for though, but it still works. And that will be my strategy for a successful writing. I think the most stressful thing about open responses is just including everything that is to be answered.
I agree with Kelly on the whole "FRED" thing. It's a really good strategy. Also, I always write down all the information I think I might need on the page with the open response question. That seems to help me so I don't forget anything. I don't really get stressed about writing anything, sometimes I just worry that I am forgetting an essential part of the answer.
ReplyDeleteFRED is very good to use because it really helps to make a strong peice of writing. Also, the only thing I stress about while writing an open response is that I might run out of time or leave out an important detail.
ReplyDeleteI also like the "FRED" method. I think it helps me remember the parts of the essay and what to include in my writing. When I write an essay I like to read and reread the question so I fully understand what I need to answer. I don't get stressed out while writing an essay, but I do get a little nervous before.
ReplyDeleteI too agree with the FRED staregy. But it takes more than an acronym to get the A answer. You have to understand what it means. And how to apply it. You have to back your claim with quotes directly from the text. Then you must explain what the quotes mean and the significance of them. As far as stress goes, nothing about writing an open response is stressful to me except maybe if there is a time limit and I have to pace myself.
ReplyDeleteThe FRED method that Ms. Pflaumer taught us last year works well because it makes it easier to use everything nessicary to do a good job on open responeses. But the key is to remember te acronym which can be difficult sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThe FRED method also helps me. It helps remind me to back up my statements with examples directly from the text and to explain what I am talking about thoroughly. The only thing that might stress me out is a time limit and making sure I answer all parts of the question within that time frame.
