Non-fiction: What are you learning?
What are you learning about non-fiction by creating the teachers' guide for your book?
You may write a paragraph or create a bulleted list.
If you have any project questions, list them here.
If you are having an issue with Publisher or Blogger, ask your questions here and anyone can go ahead and answer it.
Im learning that non-fiction dont always follow a story like or plot mike fiction does. So you have to make ajustemnts to the way tour teaching it by coming up with either new straegys or combining old one made for fiction. Also i just learned that all non-fiction is different and there is really no bounderys as to how to write it other than it has to be real facts.
~learned that it is a structural type of writing ~ there is a few more components that are necessary for the non-fiction books My question is: for the part of the teacher's guide where we have to create an assessment... do we just state what the task is or do we have to lay it out step by step?
Through creating a teacher's guide and reading nonfiction I learned that it reads quite differently than fiction. Nonfiction seems much easier to read because it does not have to follow a plot. There are no chacracters and events that are really necessary to keep track of so it makes reading it much more straightforward. While reading my book I rarely had to flip back to a previous page to remember an important detail. Even though it is easier to read I am actually finding it quite difficult to teach because it is mostly facts or events, and there is really no way to explain those besides simply stating them.
Some of the things i have learned so far with reading non-fiction would be that like Lindsay, i realized that it sometimes fiction doesnt follow a exact story or plot while fiction does. Also i have realized that sometimes non-fiction isint as interesting as fiction because in fiction you can make something up to make it interesting while in non-fiction you have to give exactly what happened. Also i realized that non-fiction can be told in many different ways.
I am learning that non-fiction is read very differently than fiction is. It is more in detail and factual to create a teachers guide for a non-fiction book. Other backround information is needed to be found to write a descriptive paragraph on the author and the questions that are included in the teachers guide have to be accurate and specific. Also, I think it is important to define important terms because the terms play a major part in the story because they are real. Like Nickley said, it is easier to read because it is factual and easy to follow along with, but it is hard to teach to another person because it is hard to pull specific things from a book that has not been read by the person recieving the information. I also am having a hard time thinking of a project or activity to follow the teachers guide.
I am learing that reading non fiction is different than reading other genre's. Other genres you have to think more in depth and put two and two together to understand the writing. Reading non fiction is not like that. Non fiction gives you the facts straight up and most of the time tou don't really have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the author means.
I have learned that reading non fiction can be almost as enjoyable as reading fiction. It is just dryer and in order for it to be interesting you have to like what you are reding about. Also when reading non fiction it really helps to know something about the topic your raeding about, or just have the internet and look up anything that you don't know, which is something that I had to do often. I also learned from my book that not only does the book not always follow a certain plot, but a lot of the time it will jump into things that are hard to follow without research.
