I do think chivalry exists in today's world. I think a good example of a chivalrous person would be Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi fought for his country against the British rule by using non-violent protests. What he did was for his country but he did not anyone to be hurt along the way. Gandhi ended up paying the ultimate price for his chivalry, as he was assassinated. As he was trying to work out a way to make both the Muslims and Hindus in India happy, he was assassinated by a man who thought Gandhi was too sympathetic towards the Muslims. That is why I believe Gandhi was a very chivalrous man.

Michael,
ReplyDeleteGandhi has become the inspiration for all who are devoted to non-violent protest and I find Gandhi's chivalry to be on a spiritual plane worth striving for.
Your suggestion is somewhat ironic, given that knights of yore were known for their willingness to commit necessary;isn't it amazing that our idea of chivalry today can encompass both those who take violent action (soldiers) and those who refuse to violence to anyone, even their enemies?
Being willing to lay down one's life is one thing;actually sacrificing it proves it.
Thanks for making a challenging nomination for our consideration.
