This is the first time I have assigned this type of assignment for an English class. We read several poems, memoirs, stories and a novel about telling the truth, and instead of having quizzes or open response items, essays or papers, you were directed to approach the subject creatively by composing a poem or poems, fiction, or something else non-traditional.
1. What have you learned about "telling the truth" as a reader?
Consider advice about what to do, warnings about what not to do, or just a statement about human nature.
What message did you feature in your text? Why? How did any text we read influence you?
3. What did you learn about the craft and structure of the genre you chose?
How did any feature of writing or literary term become more clear to you as you wrote and revised?4. Should I do this again? Why or why not?
1. As a reader I have learned that telling the truth is never easy. Sometimes we want to avoid telling it, but then we just tell another lie to avoid a lie.
ReplyDelete2.As a wtiter I have learned that when talking about the truth you can make metaphors that help the reader see why the truth is so important. I used repetition in my poem so I could really enforce what my poem is about.
3. with the structure of a poem it can help the reader see what the poem is about.
4.I think you should do this again because it was fun to write my own view on the truth and whether it should be said or not.
1. As a reader, I have learned much about telling the truth through this unit. I have learned that often times people avoid telling the truth because of the difficulty of it.
ReplyDelete2. As a writer, I have learned that when a truth is revealed, often times it is hard to except it.
3. I have learned that fiction is fairly easy to write because you can convey your thoughts and ideas through the characters you create. I have learned that quotes are very effective in fiction, and I got this idea through Cosby's piece.
4. I think we should do this assignment again because I enjoyed it a lot. I like how there is a lot of room for creativity and those who prefer poetry can write poetry and those who prefer prose can write prose.
As a reader I have learned that sometimes telling the truth has consequences. Telling the truth isn't always going to end badly but when it will it just leads to lieing.
ReplyDeleteAs a writer I have learned that sometimes the truth is hard. Summarizing it in words isn't easy either. I used repitition just like how once you lie more lies keep piling on.
I learned that the structure of a poem adds so much to the meaning and feeling behind the poem.
This was a good project and you should definitely do it again. Being able to choose what we did helped a lot.
1) I learned as a reader that telling the truth is a good characteristic to have, and that the honesty is the best policy. If you lie and it backfires, you are going to have to face certain consequences and punishments. Everyone lies at some point and its not always intentional but none the less it still deserves consequences.
ReplyDelete2) As a writer, you want to make sure you are giving factual information and to portray accurately when you can. I stated subtly that lying can destroy character and the person people know you to be. I chose to do that because i felt that people need to know the severity of lying not just because of hurting others, but because you bury the real you. Nothing really influenced me, it is just the way i feel and the way i think it should be.
3) I have always loved poetry and am very familiar with all kinds of structures and different areas of poetry. I just took the traditional route of rhyming at the end of the lines. I noticed that imagery when writing is a very effective way of creating and getting a point across.
4) Yes, yes you should because it allows us to choose what we are capable of doing and gives us the chance to engulf ourselves in the true meanings of the subject of topic. Creative writing is the way to go i think, it lets us take matter into our own hands.
1. As a reader, I have learned that it is difficult not only to recieve the truth, but also to tell it. The truth may not always have the results that one expects, and it can cause problems.
ReplyDelete2. As a writer, I have learned that the truth can make for an interesting writing topic. Sometimes the truth may be hard to articulate because you want to take into consideration the feelings of the person you're telling it to.
3. The genre I chose to work with was an infographic. I learned that it can be a short and visually appealing way to get one's point across. I also learned that creating an infographic is much more complicated than it appears.
4. This should definitely be assigned again. It was more interesting than just writing an essay and I enjoyed it more. I also liked having such a wide range of things to choose from.
1. i have learned that telling the truth isnt always the right thing to do and that the truth all at once would make every man bloind.
ReplyDelete2. as a writer i have learned that tellling the truth is a must exspecialy if you are writing something people will look to for the truth and use as facts in their lives. The message of the truth isnt always the right thing is my message
As a reader I learned that the truth can be told straight up or it can be told slanted. The slanted truth allows people to read in between the lines and interpret the truth on their own. Telling the truth can effect relation in where they either become stronger because of trust or weaken because the truth hurts.
ReplyDeleteAs a writer, i learned that the truth can be viewed both positively and negatively. The message that i featured was the truth told in a secret should remain the silent truth.
I chose poetry because i am used to it and enjoy writing it. I definitely believe that you should do this assignment again in the future. It allows students to create their own views of the truth in their own style.
1. As a reader, I have learned that although sometimes telling the truth is hard, in the end it is much easier to tell the truth because one lie can be followed by many more.
ReplyDelete2. As a writer, I have learned that the truth can be expressed in many ways and does always not have to be hurtful. In my poem I compared the pros and cons of telling the truth and being a truthful person.
3. I chose to write poetry because it was easier to express my feelings on the truth... I feel as if poetry has a stronger sence of imagry and gets a point across in an easier way. Poems dont always have to flow together, while short stories do. I felt as if writing a poem helped me compare the truth's positive and negative affects easily.
4. I think you should do this again because it gave us a chance to choose what way to express our feelings on the truth. Some people work better with short stories while some work better with poetry. This helped each person in class express their thoughts of the truth more personally.
1. As a reader, I have learned that telling thr truth is very difficult and can lead to big problems than lying might, but it is important to tell the truth anyway because people need to hear it and they can't just keep living a lie.
ReplyDelete2. As a writer, I have learned that telling the truth is difficult to convey in words and it is hard to express what it can do and the power of the truth.
3. The genre I chose for this assignment was poety because I felt that poems are very short and powerful literary works, and the topic of the truth is a very powerful thing so I thought they would work well together. I learned that repetition in a poem is a strong way to emphasize a particular thing you want to ring attention to.
4. I think you should do this assignment again, I enjoyed it very much. It gave us a chance to express more of our creativity rather than writing about a open response question.
1. As a reader, I have learned that telling the truth can be extremely difficult at times, but sometimes you just need to, for the betterment of you and the person you're telling.
ReplyDelete2. The message I learned about truth and told in my text is that the truth is, in most cases, the best way to go, and you'll become a good person if you do. But lies shouldn't be seen as all that bad, and if told on occasion are fine.
3. I learned how it's necessary and difficult to include background and create an interesting conflict.
4. Yes, it was interesting to be able to choose whatever genre we wanted to write, although it was difficult at first to come up with an idea, but just having a subject, truth, helped.
1) As a reader I learned that elling the truth is just as hard as recieving it and that to do so takes an extreme amount of courage.I also learned that sometimes people don't like to hear the truth and there is always a time and place were the truth is necessary.
ReplyDelete2)As a writer I learned that sometimes its better to lie while other times the person needs the truth, so in the end it is truly up to the person in the situation to decide.
3)I leanred that other than just using actual poetic strategies, I can do things such as make my poem stand out visually to add emphasis to different areas. Examples: font change, bold wording.
4)I feel like we should do this again because it allows me to view work then build of of that making a deeper connection between my writing and the works we read.
1) As a reader I have learned that telling the truth can be as hard to recieve as to tell. But also that the truth needs to be told although it can be hard.
ReplyDelete2)As a writer I have learned that you can tell the truth and not hurt someones feelings, like in the help the maids told Skeeter their stories of white ladies and it did not hurt skeeter even though she was white.
3)I did a poem and I learned ab9out all the diffrent formats you can do to make a poem and they can be free verse and dont always have to follow a pattern.
4)Yes I absoultly think yiu should do this again because it does not limit the student to what they can write and it is a very interesting topic to write about. There is so many diffrent storys that can be told and thoughts about the truth.
3. the things that i learned about the craaft and structure of my genera was that it dosent have to have all one topic and that u can change it up. also that thr speakers voice should be loud and clear to hel the reader get more into the short story/ article.
ReplyDelete4. yes i think you shoul do this again becasue it think it is a fun assignment and it was something you can be passont about and that gives students more drive to want to write
By reading the exerpts and poems in class, I have learned that the truth can be difficult and decieving. People lie about the truth, which really doesn't make sense. Also the truth can be hard to tell, and also had to be told. It can hurt you, or at the same time can make you feel a lot better.
ReplyDeleteAs a writer, I have learned that the truth can be hard to tell. But, also, it can be easy to tell. If you tell the truth, you can really hurt someone, which makes it hard to tell. The truth is confusing, but it is also very simple.
I chose to write a poem for the writing. I learned that poems can be arranged and written in pretty much any way that you want. In a poem you are the writer, sometimes the speaker, but you can make all the decisions for what you want your poem to be like and all the punctuation marks.
I think you should do this again. It was a much "stress-less" kind of project that was much better than taking a test. Somethings you just can't test on and know the facts, you actually have to go deeper and understand the meaning and lesson, but doing this I think we all pretty much understood the lesson and it's cool that we have our own little books of everyone's writing.
1) As a reader I have learned that there are many forms of telling the truth, and many ways to tell the truth. From all of this I have learned that it's not always easy to tell the truth. Just like it isn't always easy to recieve the truth. From most of the stories or poems we have read, I gathered taht most people regret not telling the truth in some way.
ReplyDelete2)As a writer I have also learned that there are numberous ways to tell the truth. I featured the fact that even small lies can snowball into bigger things without any notice. I got my influence from a piece of text from MCAS actually. It was called "A Bedtime Story" and that is how I based my poems form.
3)I got the idea of my form from an MCAS poem that we had to read, like I said above.
4) I thought that this was a pretty good project. It made sense to do for this theme, and I would suggest doing it again.
I learned as a reader that telling the truth has consequences. If the truth is averted, however, the consequences can be more substantial. The truth has to be told because it is the right thing to do, even though it may not be what is wanted to be heard.
ReplyDeleteAs a writer, I have learned that the truth must be told. In my poems, I used shape and rhyme to illustrate the truth.
I learned that the structure of poetry is up to the specific poet. Stanza length, figurative language and imagery, and rhyme or free verse are all features that you could choose to use.
I think this was a good assignment. It tested our assessment of the truth, I feel, and allowed us to express our interpretations
