My picture is of the bead bodys of jews on a cart being loaded on top of eachother carlessly. It speaks to me because you see all the pain and horrors they have gone through by the look of their bodies. They are so skiney and its like they are frozen in time by the looks in their eyes and the looks of their frail bodies just waiting to be saved from this horror.
ReplyDeleteI selected a picture of an empty gas chamber. Gas chambers were the ultimate weapon used by the Nazis, killing hundreds at a time.
ReplyDeleteI chose a picture of the train tracks leading into the main entrance of Auschwitz. This was the same set of tracks that Elie Wiesel road on when he was first introduced to the horrors of the Nazis. I believe the picture shows anticipation and leaves the person looking at it, curious to what is on the otherside of the brick building.
ReplyDeleteI chose the picture of the sign that says, "Arbeit Macht Frei" it means "Work makes you free" which was actually really contradicting the whole idea of the concentration camps because the Jews were working, yet they were still help captive and killed everyday. It was sort of a "tease" to them because they knew they weren't going to be free but had to read that sign everyday.
ReplyDeleteMy picture is of the gateway into Auschwitz. The sign above it says “Arbeit Macht Frei” which means "work makes one free." I chose this picture because it made me think of how hard the Jews had to work in the concentration camps and for such terrible treatment in return.
ReplyDeleteThe picture I chose was a scene outsie with piles of dead people lying on the ground with living jews and soilders just walking by and looking at the dead. I chose this because it just shows how normal death became to them and how sickening it was. Noone is crying in the picture nor is anyone barley recongnizing the dead ones. Death became a part of every day life, they were way to used to it.
ReplyDeleteThe image I chose was a picture of the Nazis loading Jews in civilian clothing into cattle cars. It shows the vast amount of people that were being put on trains to be shipped to concentration camps throughout Europe. I felt this image belonged because it shows the beginning of how ordinary people were forced to fight for their survival.
ReplyDeleteMy picture is of two people looking at the Holocaust Memorial in Boston of the six glass towers with all the numbers representing all the people that died during the Holocausr. I chose this picure because it puts in perspective of just how many people died and you look at all the numbers, which are individual people, and it astonishes you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your perceptive comments about these images. You are making connections to Wiesel's memoir through these images that will enable you to continue your reflections through poetry. If you haven't posted, please let your classmates know which photogrpah you selected and why. Different people can select the same image for different reasons...
ReplyDeleteI chose the picture on the cover of the John Boyne novel, "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas" because it shows just jow young you could be and how they were identified by a number in the concentration camps not by their names.
