So, what character are you selecting for your paper? Why?
What is your working thesis?
A working thesis is general and represents the initial hypothesis you intend to prove before you conduct your rereading of the play and your re-examination of the essays and story in the Literature Connection book.
Of course, as you move to your second draft, you will refine your thesis statement to preview the body you have developed with the evidence you collect from your reading and experience.
You will find that you will inspire each other by noting your character selections and your tentative theses...share the wealth!
I am writing about Bottom.
ReplyDeleteI am writing about Helena because she is funny but yet very smart if you really take into consideration what she says.
ReplyDeleteI am writing about Titania.
ReplyDeleteThesis in progress: "Throughout all this magic one can be entertained by Titania and one cal also be educated."
I am also writing about Bottom because I played him and hes both entertaining and teaches us stuff.
ReplyDeleteI chose Oberon as the character that educates and entertains me.
ReplyDeleteIm writing about helena in my paper becasue throught the play, she looses her head countless times and is very impulsive. This leads to alot of silly scenes that happen most people one in their life time and i think i can relate back to her well. My Thesis is:"In the classic comedy “A Mid Summers Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare, the experiences of a young Athenian girl named Helena both educated and entertained me in ways about the experience of attraction and love by putting a classic twist on the everyday boy drama between friends"
ReplyDeleteFor my formal paper, I have chosen Helena. I feel as though Helena has a lot of information to write about. She is very entertaining, but you can learn a few lessons about life and love for her as well. As of right now I am not too happy with my working thesis so I will hopefully be editing it and making a much better and clearer one tonight. "One of the main characters, Helena, helps us see that we shouldn’t become completely in love with one who does not have mutual feelings toward us; this may be unfortunate for her, but she does manage to teach us a few lessons about life and love while thoroughly entertaining us at the same time."
ReplyDeleteI chose the character of Demetrius from MSND because i took on the role of Demetrius and i feel i know who he is, how he acts, and what he did. I will use my reading and understanding of his parts as a key helper in my essay. My working thesis is " There were many instances in which people were foolish in the play but, I pity Demetrius’s misfortune and foolishness throughout his existence in the play."
ReplyDeleteFor my paper I am writing about Nick Bottom. My working thesis is that Bottom is just an average guy with an oblivious personality, and through his absurdity he also teaches us.
ReplyDeleteMy essay is about Nick Bottom. My working thesis is "Sorrow and pity is expressed in the direction of Bottom the greatest because of his appearance, foolishness throughout the play, and by how the other characters portray him."
ReplyDeleteI chose to write about Puck because he is a character who is very funny and teaches lesoons. My thesis is that Puck can be relied on for a good joke as well as a good life lesson.
ReplyDeleteI chose Oberon because I found his sense of humor funny. Also instead of teaching us the right things to do in love he taught us what not to do, which is different from most characters in the play.
ReplyDeleteI chose to write about Puck because he entertains in the play through his pranks and also educates in the play. My working thesis statement is, "Puck not only acted as an entertainer with his pranks and mistakes, but also as an educator, through his spells and his ending speech."
ReplyDeleteI chose the Helena as my character because I had a lot of different feelings toward her, sometimes she annoyed me and sometimes I felt sympathy for her and sometimes she made me laugh. My working thesis is,Helena needs to work on her self esteem and realize that people aren’t always out to get her that she does have good qualities. Helena wants what she wants and until she gets on the right road she is going to be unsure of herself.
ReplyDeleteI am writing about Oberon and my thesis is Oberon is a source of both comedy and education about love in the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
ReplyDeleteMy thesis- William Shakespeare uses Bottom in his play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to both entertain us with his foolishness as well as further educate us about love.
ReplyDeleteI chose Lysander because i played him so i feel as if I can connect to him over all the others. My working thesis is: Throughoout the course of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Lysander acts as a source of both entertainment and education.
ReplyDeleteI chose Hermia because i felt as if she disquised her entertainment through her passion for true love. My thesis is : Hermia is used as the young Athenian lover who loves Lysander unconditionally and let’s her foolish heart face any distraction in her path.
ReplyDeleteI chose to write about Puck because he is character that can joke around and entertain the audience, but he can also teach a lesson.
ReplyDeleteI am writing about Helena because I thought she was very entertaining.
